Side Project #2: Pink Floyd's The Wall
What Are "Side Projects"?
A "side project" is a film that I was hired to produce in the past for a client. It is more limited in scope than our main HKR line but, by popular demand, I do offer these discs for those who are interested in what they have to offer.
Do YOU have a project you'd like to hire me to work on? If so, then click on the "Contact" link at the top of the page and send me an email with your proposal. If we can negotiate a deal, I'll get to work and produce something that you'll be truly amazed by.
Pink Floyd – The Wall is a 1982 British musical film directed by Alan Parker, based on the 1979 Pink Floyd album The Wall. The screenplay was written by Pink Floyd vocalist and bassist Roger Waters. Bob Geldof plays rock star Pink, who, driven into insanity by the death of his father, constructs a physical and emotional wall to protect himself.
Like the album, the film is highly metaphorical, and symbolic imagery and sound are present most commonly. The film is mostly driven by music and does not feature much dialogue. The film is best known for its imagery of mental isolation, drug use, war, fascism, dark or disturbing animated sequences, sexual situations, violence and gore. Despite its turbulent production and the creators voicing their discontent about the final product, the film received generally positive reviews and has an established cult following.
What this project is all about:
Pink Floyd's famous film "The Wall", which accomanies their classic album of the same name, was never officially released in high definition. The best home video release has been a couple of DVDs that sound good, but aren't great in terms of picture quality.
However, the film HAS been aired in High Definition on some premium over-the-air broadcasts. Some dedicated Pink Floyd fans recorded a broadcast of this film and the quality is remarkably good. It looks as good as a commercial Blu-ray. The trouble is that the broadcasts all had highly compressed audio, which is a big problem for a music film.
The two DVDs I was provided, on the other hand, contained pristine LPCM and DTS tracks that sound exceptional.
So what I was tasked with doing was to create a custom Blu-ray that combines the high quality HD capture of the film with the great-sounding audio tracks from the best DVDs, and two audio commentaries
In addition to this, our version includes synced up subtitles with the song lyrics and all the special features available for this film.
